What a deal!!

Published January 3, 2011 by whatsonmyface

Check out what I spotted at ROSS today!

It’s the 100% Pure Moxie kit from BareMinerals, on sale for $14.99! It’s got 3 brushes, an all-over mineral face color, blush, a mineral veil, and 2 eyeshadows. It definitely pays to look around at discount stores like ROSS…you never know what you’ll find! I also got some clothes, but I’ll do a separate haul post on those so I can include pictures.

Run — don’t walk — to CVS

Published January 2, 2011 by whatsonmyface

I’m testing out my iPhone to blog and wanted to post a quick message about a great makeup sale happening now at CVS!

It’s their 50-75% off sale that happens I think twice a year, and when I checked it out yesterday, I saw great deals from Revlon, L’oreal, Physicans Formula, CoverGirl and more.

The sale will go on till the products are gone, and if you don’t see clearance stickers at your local CVS, take your items to the scanner anyway — they will most likely ring up on sale!

Quick CVS Haul: A $2.93 shopping trip!

Published October 8, 2010 by whatsonmyface

Before I get to the haulin’ — a couple things: I fully intend to post a September favorites, even though it’s already Oct. 7. I’m behind on a few posts that I meant to do in September, but the month was hectic and super crazy for me.

Now, on to the bargain shopping! Who doesn’t love CVS and its Extra Bucks and Rewards and all?

And inside the bag of goodness?

The haul! Here’s what I got:

  • Revlon nail polish in 110 Really Rosy. I’ve been thinking about getting darker shades for the fall, but this pretty pink was too perfect to pass up! And the deal? Revlon polishes are on sale for $3.99 with $3 in Extra Bucks this week at CVS…meaning it’s like you’re spending 99 cents per polish! The $3 Extra Bucks print out on your receipt after purchase, so it’s essentially a rebate. You spend the money upfront but get it back to spend toward another purchase.
  • Aussie hair products — 3 Minute Miracle and Instant Freeze Hairspray. When I got to CVS, I scanned my ExtraCare card at the coupon machine and scanner at the front of the store to get my coupons. I got one for $1 off two Aussie products, and these were on sale 2/$6.
  • Ardell lashes in 117 black. Another coupon I got was $5 off any Halloween item, and these just happened to be in the Halloween section with special packaging (but they’re the same as the regular 117 black lashes). They were $3.99, but the $5 off attached to the receipt so it was like getting these for free plus and additional $1.01 off the rest of my purchase.

And the best part…the receipt! I also had $1.50 in Extra Bucks that printed from the coupon machine, accumulated over the past quarter of spending (you get a certain percentage of what you spend back in Extra Bucks…that’s why you should always make sure they scan your card at the register)!

What will I do with my $3 at CVS? Maybe I’ll hit up another store tomorrow to see what the selection of Revlon polishes there is like while they’re still on sale! :)

Quick CVS Haul – 90% off makeup!

Published August 6, 2010 by whatsonmyface

I made 2 trips to 2 different CVS stores after work today. The first one still had items from the 50-75% off beauty sale — score, I thought! This sale started back in the spring, and I’ve found some leftovers! I got a Maybelline ColorSensational lipstick in Born With It, and a Sally Hanson Natural Makeup Inspired by Carmindy lipstick in Lilac, both on clearance (and a $1 off coupon for the Maybelline lipstick!).

That’s the Born With It on the left and Lilac on the right. Born With It is a really pretty, sort of nude pink-y shade that I think will work nicely on my pale skin. Lilac is quite a bit more dramatic, with deep purple undertones. Still super pretty, though, and since I’m a fan of the Sally Hansen Natural Makeup lipsticks, I immediately tried it on…

I also got two CoverGirl Eye Enhancers shadows — one in Golden Sunrise and another in Brown Smolder — because I had two coupons for $2 off any CG product (and CVS was having a buy one, get one 50% off with CG).

So, nice kind of boring haul, right? I stopped by a different CVS just to see what they had, and as soon as I walked in, I saw a table with a sign that said “90% off” and wouldn’t you know…there were a few makeup products just begging to be bought.

And how much did it cost?

That’s right, just over $5 for 3 shadows and 2 blushes!

I’ve never tried Almay shadow before. I have a cream blush and a bronzer from them, which I like…nothing that’s holy grail, but they work for good everyday products. I got these shadows in the shades (l-r) Apricot, Ivory and Petal. You’d think this could create a nice neutral eye look, right? Maybe the Ivory all over the lid, with Apricot in the crease and Petal as a highlight. But when I got home and swatched them (and the CoverGirl shadows from my first CVS stop), I was a teeny bit disappointed (or as disappointed as you can get from not loving 80 cent eyeshadows).

The photo quality isn’t the best, but the Almay shadows really were not all that pigmented and were kind of chalky. But, I think I can work with them, and if I use an eye primer (like Urban Decay Primer Potion or e.l.f. Mineral Eye Primer) with a base (good ole MAC Paint Pot in Painterly), they might be OK. Left to right, that’s Almay Apricot (kind of a peachy bronze), Almay Ivory (the most pigmented of the 3…a shimmery off white), CoverGirl Golden Sunrise (I like this one…very bronze-y with a touch of gold), CoverGirl Brown Smolder (a rich, deep brown that I’ll use for defining the outer V of my eye), and Almay Petal (super sheer and frosty).

The mineral blushes I got will be fun to test out. I have a ton of blushes in my collection but rarely reach for anything other than NYC Blushable Creme Sticks topped with NARS Orgasm.

Maybelline Mineral Power blush in Gentle Pink. Got it for 95 cents!

The sticker says 50% off, but it rang up 90% off! :) Just like rock beats scissors, register beats sticker!

24.7 Minerals Anti-Aging Mineral Blush in Champagne. Not sure I love this as a blush, but it’ll probably be a pretty highlight color. I don’t know much about this brand, other than I first saw it in CVS maybe late last year, and soon enough, they had just about everything from the line 50% off (and now the leftovers at 90% off).

Don’t you love impromptu shopping trips that turn into major reasons to brag on how much you saved? :)

target haul!

Published July 16, 2010 by whatsonmyface

I popped into Target on my way home from work today, just to browse and see what looked good (always a dangerous thing in Target!). I didn’t actually get too much, just a couple good deals.

On with the haul!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Coral Reef (limited edition) - $5.94
These lipglosses are amazing, as I’m sure you’ve heard or read by now. I have a couple from the permanent line, but their limited edition colors for summer are really fun. Coral Reef is my third from the line, pictured below:

I also have Peach Petal (far left in the pic above, it’s a really pretty, milky nude that is great on its own or over a nude lipstick; I’ve even used it to tone down darker or brighter lipsticks), and Lilac Pastelle (the one on the far right — don’t be afraid of how lavendar it looks in the tube! This is a gorgeous gloss that gives your lips the pinkest, palest shimmer. So pretty).

Coral Reef is just as great as the others that I’ve tried. The consistency is really opaque and creamy, kind of like a MAC Cremesheen (my favorite formulation of MAC gloss). And the pigmentation? Insane! My lips look like I just ate a watermelon popsicle, awesome for summer:

I also picked this up at Target:

Studio Tools Crease Brush – $1.99

Not too glamorous, but I needed an inexpensive, fluffy eye brush for blending color into the crease. I’ve been using my $1 e.l.f. Blending Eye Brush, which I love, and I planned to get a backup at Target, but I couldn’t find it in their e.l.f. display. So, I went with this one that looks pretty similar. I love using these types of brushes for the crease because I don’t like a really strong, bold wash of color in that area…I like it to be really soft and blended.

US Weekly – $3.99 and People – $3.99

Not beauty-related, but I gotta have my fix of gossip magazines! I buy these two every week. Excited to read the People cover story on Carrie Underwood’s wedding — she made a gorgeous bride, and I hope they have info on which products they used to create her look.

Physicians Formula Healthy Wear Bronzer & Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 50 (Fair) – $0.74

Saved the best for last, I think! That price up there is NOT a misprint! I totally scored this gift set, around $14 regularly priced, for under $1! How’d I do it? Well, it was in the clearance section for $3.74, which would have been a great score on its own, but a few of the PF products in the regular display had peelies for $3 off any PF product, so I got it for $0.74! I’ve never used PF foundation or tinted moisturizer or bronzer, so not sure if this will work for me, but I dabbed a bit of the tinted moisturizer on the top of my hand, and the consistency seemed really soft and light, which is a good thing for me. Plus, I like that it has SPF! I’ll have to do a review or update after I use with my thoughts.

And, after I paid, I got a register coupon!

$2 off a BOOTS product! Score. BOOTS is a really popular brand in the U.K., and they have a limited version of their line available in the U.S. in Target. I’ve tried one or two things from this line, and I’m excited to try something new. I’ve swatched lots of their things in Target, so I know I like the pigmentation and texture of their cosmetics. Any suggestions for a great BOOTS product to try with my coupon?
